Regionally Speaking, Thursday, December 29, 2016

Indiana Public Media

On this final show of 2016:  State Senator Ed Charbonneau (R-Valparaiso)  joins us to talk about the issues that will dominate the upcoming General Assembly session which begins next week, including road and bridge rehabilitation (and how to pay for it) as well as underground infrastructure.  That's an issue Charbonneau has been stressing to his Statehouse colleagues for years that must be addressed as soon as possible.  He offers us some alarming statistics.

Senator Karen Tallian (D-Portage) talks about how the Indiana Senate Budget Committee, of which she is a member, is doing on drafting the framework for a new two-year state government budget.  That budget must be passed by the General Assembly members before the session adjourns in April.

And Purdue University Northwest Assistant Vice Chancellor Wes Lukoshus is on the phone from the Hammond campus to review the big events of 2016 for the university, including the unification of Purdue Calumet and Purdue North Central into one regional university..

Chris Nolte produces and hosts “Regionally Speaking” aired weekdays from noon to 1:00 p.m. He's also the temporary local "Morning Edition" host.
