Decorative crosswalks are starting to pop up around Downtown Gary. The brightly-colored crosswalks are designed not only to make the area more welcoming but also to improve safety, according to the Gary Public Transportation Corporation Facebook page.
The agency says ISH Muhammad painted the crosswalks at 7th Avenue and Broadway last weekend, while Could Be Architecture began work at 9th and Broadway. GPTC got grant funding for the project, which aims to connect apartment buildings and businesses with GPTC bus stops.
The intersection of 6th and Broadway and the area around the Gary Metro Center are set to get upgrades soon.
